Contagion was born as a result of a phone call. In 2010, Dean & Bridget Taylor were living and working in Singapore (Dean as CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi, Bridget as Creative Director of BBDO Asia) when Dean got a call from an ex Telecom client, Kevin Bowler - by then CEO at Tourism New Zealand.
Tourism New Zealand had just digitised their global account, and Kevin was frustrated that none of the full service agencies had much of a handle on digital (ten years into the new millennium, most were still referring to it as “new media”). At the same time, he found the digital shops were a bit out of their depth in their understanding of brands.
Clearly, there was a gap in the market, and by the end of the conversation, it was even clearer who was going to fill it.
Contagion was born, with Tourism New Zealand as its founding client.
