Our Story

Contagion was founded in 2010 by Bridget Taylor of Ngāti Whakaue and Tūwharetoa. Bridget was living and working in Singapore as Creative Director of BBDO Asia, with Dean Taylor who was CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi when they got a call from Kevin Bowler - CEO at Tourism New Zealand. He wanted to explore the idea of starting a different kind of media agency.

Bridget felt it was important to come back and have diversity reflected in the ownership of media and brand agencies. Her firm belief is that Aotearoa, New Zealand business has a duty to make kiwis lives’ better and give back to the community. Contagion is an independently owned Aotearoa, New Zealand Agency that keeps its profits in the country.

Tourism New Zealand saw this uniqueness. They had just digitised their global account, and were was frustrated that none of the full service international agencies had much of a handle on digital (ten years into the new millennium, most were still referring to it as “new media”) they were also looking for deeper insights n their understanding of brands and creativity in the media space. Contagion continue to plan and buy global digital media for Tourism New Zealand. Contagion was born with diversity, a duty of care and international excellence at its core, but Aotearoa, New Zealand in its heart.
